In Episode 178 of The Get More Smarter Podcast, we dive into the current state of the Colorado Republican Party and their…long list of significant setbacks. We start this show with a brief overview of the GOP's complete and total lack of statewide offices, their diminishing relevance in the Colorado legislature, and the absence of incumbents running for reelection in every congressional seat they currently occupy. This episode also previews the second regular session of the 74th General Assembly, where we take a peek at the potential legislative battles happening in Denver, inspired largely by this excellent piece in the Colorado Sun.
We then shift our focus to the unexpected retirement announcements from several Colorado Republican Congress members, with particular emphasis on zombie-congressman Doug Lamborn. We take a trip down the memory lane of Lamborn's career, noting his limited legislative achievements and various controversies, including ethical complaints and some, shall we say, unusual personal behavior. We discuss how these retirements are indicative of larger issues within the Colorado Republican Party, such as the gaping crater of a leadership gap extremely predictably caused by the absolutely insane rise to power of one Dave “Let’s Go Bankrupt” Williams.
